Additional Information
The Underwater World of Saipan is a 105-minute interactive DVD showcasing the incredible beauty and bio-diversity of Saipan’s underwater world. With 7 amazing dives to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start but getting there is effortless with a simple to use map menu. Simply select the dive site you want to see, then sit back and enjoy your virtual tour beginning high atop Mount Tapochau. The descent from Saipan’s highest peak quickly pinpoints each dive location while a short boat ride or 4-wheel drive gets you there. Wonderful cinematography then captures the unique topside attractions of each site including spectacular seaside cliffs, historical WWII monuments, beautiful white sand beaches and local children playing in crystal clear waters.
With a giant stride or back roll from the comfort of your living room the topside world disappears and you are immersed into a whole new world, the underwater world. Here you quickly realize each dive is a unique experience unto itself, with amazing diversity in both topography and marine life. From the pinnacles of Banzai Cliff and Ice Cream to the shear walls and shallow reefs of Naftan Point and Managaha, Saipan’s underwater world has something for everyone including the world famous cavern dive, "The Grotto".
Located just miles from the Marianas trench, the deepest part of the world, Saipan’s crystal clear waters are full of life. With over 800 recorded species of fish alone these waters are considered to be some of the worlds richest in terms of biodiversity. During each dive the relationships and often-bizarre behaviors of many of these creatures is captured on film and complimented by a perfect original soundtrack. Whether it’s the eagle rays and eels at Ice Cream, tiny gobies and their blinded shrimp partners at Obyan and Lau Lau Bay or the large schools of trevally hanging out in the deep blue at Banzai Cliff and the Grotto, the Underwater World of Saipan DVD captures it all as if you were there.
With so many creatures to see it’s not always easy to know what you’re looking at. Again, The Underwater World of Saipan DVD makes it easy by including over 250 selectable fish identification subtitles in both the common English and scientific Latin forms. With more than 130 species identified, this educational bonus feature is like having a field guide in your mask, making it easy to put a name to that pretty face for beginners and professionals alike. Need a quick review – there’s an additional 4-minute bonus fish identification slide show where 60 of the most common fish are arranged alphabetically.
When the dives are over it’s time to see what lies above the waves by selecting the topside slideshow at the center of the map menu. This 8-minute photographic tour of the island includes flame trees in full bloom, wide open golf courses, beautiful white sand beaches, historic WWII tanks, bunkers and guns as well as the island of Managaha and the view of Saipan from its shores. As the sun sets on the final slides you can’t help but think "Wow, I’ve got to get back there or perhaps stay a while longer"!
